Donald’s Durian – SS2, Petaling Jaya, Selangor

Suitable with its name, the nose stink odour fruit, the king of fruit or durian is my favorite fruit. The smell can make you dizzy and even make smelly fart or urine after you eat it. That is why it is not allowed to bring durians to public place or transportation such as in hotel, train and etc. I never seen my foreign friends like or eat this fruit. The only place that I know so far where offer best bargain with good quality of durian is in SS2, PJ. In fact it is the famous place for KL and Selangor folks to have durian in the city. If I am not mistaken there are 4 main durian stall operators at this place, durianss2, Donald’s Durian and 2 more which I forgot the name.

Restoran Nurul Iman – Jln. Sultan Mahmud, Kuala Terengganu

My feeling is so nostalgic whenever I eat here, still remember my dad brought me here for lunch, sometimes especially after fetched me from school. Well that was about almost 30 years ago and this restaurant have been around since 80’s. Today I can still see the owner seating at the cashier counter opposite the food preparation section, just like the old days.

De Pauh Garden – Jln. Permatang Pauh, Seberang Perai, Penang

Even though De Pauh Garden restaurant started its business in early this year, it really get great patrons response. I believe this is because of its variety of food, dishes and menu with great of choices. From hot wok dishes, tomyum up to western food, pasta and etc. Furthermore the environment of the restaurant is comfortable and convenient for family or a small function. It has different section of seating and tables where the main section is under the shade like big verandah with nice interior decorated with aquarium. Opposite the main seating there is small square where open seating and tables with the big projector screen at the edge and surrounded by a row of small stalls of food counters for western and others. The surrounding shaded by sort of small garden besides it has its own surau, quite spacious parking place and other facilities. De Pauh Garden located in strategic place in the middle of residential area and higher learning institutions.

Mee Tarik Warisan Asli – Sungai Besi, Kuala Lumpur

The specialty of this restaurant, it is variety of mee tarik (kneaded, pull noodle) menu. All of the noodle that I have tasted here are my favorite, so far. Besides, they also have rice menu which my kid’s favorite – fried rice. The specialty in preparing smooth noodle started from flour, kneaded dough then pulling technique until it is served with own soup or garnish, all being done with bare hands. Hassan inherit this techniques from his family, from his great great grandfather down to him now.

Ana Ikan Bakar Petai – Pantai Selera, Tanjung Lumpur, Kuantan, Pahang

As most of us love grill seafood, especially grill fish (ikan bakar) so do I! I am not particular to the taste of pencicah ikan bakar (sauce that you use to dip/eat with the grill fish) because I don’t really eat the fish with it. I love it, grill with the best spices and that will be enough for a tastier, delicious grill fish for me. I believe this seafood restaurant got me love the best, delicious grill fish and other seafood, in fact it put petai on top of its grill spice, really nice!

Groupbase Kopitiam – Bandar Sri Damansara, Selangor

You will get yourselves uncertain if it a restaurant or unoccupied shop lot because it is little hidden by bushes of small tree in front of the restaurant. Inside of Groupbase Kopitiam just similar to typical Chinese kopitiam but when you see and taste the variety of the menus, it really serves different from others.

Restoran Puti Bungsu Batam – Yap Kwan Seng, Kuala Lumpur

It is really easy to find this restaurant, just located at Lorong Yap Kwan Seng of Jalan Yap Kwan Seng, nearby the KLCC. It is just beside Restoran Kampung Pandan, at the renovated bungalow became restaurant. The place was not crowded at all because it was Sunday lunch hour, I believe. I managed to park inside the restaurant compound but I think it would be difficult to get a parking during weekdays because I saw the parking space quite limited furthermore the roadside is prohibited parking spot.

Alissara Thai Cuisine – Puchong Indah, Selangor

I reckon this restaurant serves the best tomyum nearby my area, so far. Unfortunately I could not try their Thai named dishes which look so nice and delicious, got to repeat to this restaurant next time. The Alissara fried rice is tasty but beware for those who cannot take extreme flaming hot stuff!, it is really hot fried rice. It is some kind of nasi goreng kampung (old folk fried rice) but with ingredients of lemon grass cut, anchovies, cut of torch ginger bud/ginger flower (bunga kantan) and etc. It is strange that I could not find any pieces of chilli in the fried rice but it is really hot. Crab fried rice is quite nice as well but I love the side dishes, called Kai Jor in Thai. It is sort of chicken meat ball but blended with corn and not sure what else mixed in it but it is really tasty.

Village Park Restaurant – Damansara Utama, Petaling Jaya

This restaurant really got its crowd during Saturday breakfast hour but not sure how it is during week days. It has to put up a temporary tent in front of the restaurant due to insufficient table inside of the shop. The restaurant located at the shops row at Jalan SS21/37, within Damansara Uptown and the parking space is quite terrible, you need to park further or at the nearby multilevel parking building. It has quite number of workers, most of them are foreigners and I reckon that they are not really customer’s friendly because they rush here and there for orders, cleaning tables. I do not really enjoy the food with such hectic shop.

The cuisine here is great taste as it claims, I have dined its Shah Alam restaurant few times and it served great dishes as well. So my order that day were oyster sauce broccoli (RM9), Homst taufu (RM10), fried noodle (RM6), salted egg yolk soft shell crab (RM20), lemon chicken (RM12) and Kong Po beef (RM13). The freshly broccoli not really salty but brittle and nice with the sauce. I love the taufu, great taste with mix of taufu and fish, I could even eat itself just like that, dipped in the home sauce. The lemon chicken was tasty as well as the soft shell crab, it was so crunchy and delicious. The fried noodle looked plain but do not make first thought without taste it first, well it is really tasty!
